Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's early attempts at fame in mainstream music were unsuccessful. Perry was signed to two different labels, and then dropped by both labels before the release of any music. Capitol Records did release Perry's Ur So Gay, which received a little attention in 2007 for its cheerfully joking title. The song I Kissed a Girl was a more assertive ode sexism accompanied by a hard edged electro-pop rhythm. It was a controversial song, as critics criticized the song for promoting relationships between gay men as well as others who claimed it depicted a sexually explicit scene which appealed to men's desires for sexuality among females. I Kissed a Girl was an immediate hit for Perry's debut album One of the Boys in 2008 because of the mixture of titillation combined with polished melody. Hot N Cold, Perry's lively and sharply-tongued album that included the song that was its second biggest hit was a hit. The album which Perry wrote herself sold more than 3 million copies.
